Been hiking for hours. Lived at the base of these hills my entire life in the shadows of the Eagle Mountain, the highest peak in the range. I knew I’d summit someday.

Today’s someday. I wipe ounces of sweat from my brow, and continue the ascent. Laser focused, I continue with the majestic summit in my field of view.

After hours, I crest, feeling the euphoric surge, only to find a higher peak which was eclipsed by the one I’d looked upon my whole life.
