She was born today—the Fourth of July. Though she brought such immense joy to all of us, I had to sit with the prevalence of her birth on this date.

She would share a day with the birth of a nation. A nation wild with ambition, and scrutinized globally as a grand experiment, ever changing.

She may feel a deeper sense of pride when the nation proudly makes us more whole, and safe, and energized with progress. And she may feel deeper sorrow when she feels betrayed by the nation she relies on for protection.

I hope she dreams in color.

She’s here, and the future is hers.
