winter fog
I forgot how much I missed that first winter fog
as it rolled in so suddenly
disguised within a missed sunrise
how that squirming awoke within our bellies
telling us it was nearly spring
we had only yet to sleep
before our own inner buds would poke from the ground
And that soft soothing snow-scent
the rolled in from the east
chilling our fingers telling us to stay inside
but all we wanted to do was run out and play,
to go out into the world
and claim what still was ours
not of another nor of this earth
but simply of our own spirits
