dish soap

The man smiled at me, with such truth in his eyes as he said, “More than enough soap.” He stepped aside, leaving the public beach sink free, overflowing with bubble mountains of dish soap.

I watched him dry his plate. It must’ve been two minutes all in. He had that hazy love look in his eyes, but his gaze was at the sea. I know they were speaking to each other in that special way only a few know how to do.

And I knew in that moment this man had it figured out. And I was thankful for his reminder.

I too can be that free.
