nothing something

Alana momentarily shook her daydream. A small smile curled the corner of her lip.

“What is it?” Her brother’s wild eyes searched her narrowed stare. A thin blade of grass was pressed between his large fingers as the car’s engine cooled nearby.

“You ever feel like everything’s going to be different?”

He shook his head. “Dunno, feeling a lot of the same to me.”

Alana smiled without moving her focus - her eyes locked in a meditative gaze. “It’s all the same, but everything’s different. Like suddenly being able to breathe underwater.”

Her brother laughed, trying to play along to a joke she wasn’t telling as he leaned back into the tall grass. “Oh, yeah? Breathing underwater, huh? What changed?”

Alana smiled, finally bringing her eyes to meet his.

“Me.”
